Tackling Templates, Part III

Specimen requisitioning and procedure tracking is an important part of the processing done in most specimen handling facilities. Anything that might aid efficient use of time and resources in this processing is integral to effective workflow. BSI’s Requisition Task Templates offers a dynamic and intuitive feature achieve this objective.

Requisition Task Templates allows users to create, customize, save and employ templates that specify various actions to be performed on a single specimen or group of specimens. The Requisition Task Templates themselves are editable such that users can include any number of tasks to be performed, the tasks can be arranged in any way the user specifies, and templates can be drafted, activated and deactivated to accommodate the facility’s current workflow. Within the template editor, individual tasks can be made dependant on one another so that tasks are performed in the correct order. Individual tasks can also be edited to apply to specimens matching user defined criteria, so that each task applies only to a select group of designated specimens.

Requisition Task Templates is a useful tool for providing users with guidelines for their specimen processing workflows. However, there is another feature of Requisition Task Templates that really set them apart from most other templates. Not only do they outline the tasks to be performed, but they will actually apply these tasks to the appropriate specimens. These tasks include pulling specimens from the system, returning specimens back to the repository inventory, creating child specimens for aliquoting, and many others. Requisition Task Templates can automatically complete work for the user, saving time and energy, particularly for workflows that require the same tasks to be performed on many batches over time. Even with Requisition Task Templates applied, requisition batches can still be edited, with additional tasks applied or template tasks removed, making Requisition Task Templates flexible even while in use.

Requisition Task Templates are an error reducing and time saving way to administer consistent processing to routine batches.  Try them today or contact IMS for more information.
