Tackling Templates, Part I

Entering specimens into a database can be labor intensive and time consuming. This is often particularly true for specimen handling facilities that deal with large quantities of specimens at a time. Manually entering each individual specimen is often simply not efficient or even practical. BSI’s template functionality has been specifically designed to help speed up and streamline this process, leaving technicians with more time to focus on other important elements of their workflow.

Templates in BSI are designed such that users can create sets of custom fields specifically relevant to the specimens they handle, and automatically populate them with a broad range of data. Templates can be designed by the user to generate sets of ID’s (including incrementing ID’s), auto-fill fields common to all specimens, and even populate data which repeats over specifically set intervals. Templates are also available throughout the system to aid in accomplishing a variety of tasks such as receiving shipments, entering new specimen records, and requisition procedures.

Look out for the next installment of the Friday Feature Focus for more specific information about the types of templates available in BSI, and the particular ways in which they aid workflow.
