Accessing BSI

The BSI client is opened via the BSI Launcher application. The BSI Launcher can be downloaded from https://start.bsisystems.com. BSI Engage and BSI Hub may also be opened from this web page.

Installing BSI Launcher

BSI will require a one-time installation of the BSI launcher, after which users will not need to download and install the BSI launcher again. Navigate to the BSI start page and select the Installation Instructions button for more information. For future logins, just select the BSI icon on your desktop.

Logging into BSI

If you do not have a user account, please contact your database’s Local Administrator.

If you need help and do not know the Local Administrator’s name, contact BSI Technical Support at bsifeedback@imsweb.com or call us at (301) 628-1BSI (274) between 8AM - 4PM EST to request an account.

BSI has an optional Single Sign On (SSO) module that allows databases to have users login with their existing organizational credentials. If your database and your account are set-up for SSO, please skip the next section.

To log in to the BSI client (non-SSO):

  1. Open the BSI Launcher application on your computer.
  2. You will need to enter the database name the first time you access that database with the Launcher. After that, it will be available for you to select from the dropdown.
  3. Select the BSI instance you wish to launch from the dropdown menu:
    • Production – This is the live database.
    • Mirror – A day-old copy of the production database used for testing and support.
    • Beta/UAT - A public-facing development database, for user acceptance testing.
    • Training – A database used for new user training. Your database may not have a training environment set up.
  4. Select the Launch BSI Client button. Any updates to the BSI client application will be downloaded and a Login dialog will open.
  5. You will need to enter your username and password which was emailed to you when your account was first created. The database will be defaulted to what was entered or selected in step 2. After entering this information, select the Login button.
    • Temporary passwords expire. If your login is not successful, use the Forgot Password? link, and a new temporary password will be emailed to you (for the Production instance). For other instances, contact BSI Technical Support (contact information below).
  6. If you have access to more than one repository in the database, a dialog will open prompting you to choose the repository you would like to access.
  7. BSI will then open. Default session timeout is 30 minutes. Time may vary depending on the database's configuration.

To log in to the BSI client with SSO:

  1. Open the BSI Launcher application on your computer.
  2. You will need to enter the database name the first time you access that database with the Launcher. After that, it will be available for you to select from the dropdown.
  3. Select the BSI instance you wish to launch from the dropdown menu:
    • Production – This is the live database.
    • Mirror – A day-old copy of the production database used for testing and support.

    • Training – A database used for new user training. Your database may not have a training environment set up.
  4. Check the SSO checkbox. Subsequent launches will remember the SSO checkbox setting.
  5. Select the Launch BSI Client button. Any updates to the BSI client application will be updated, and a Login dialog will open.
  6. The first time you login you will need to select your IdP (identity provider) from a dropdown. (It is typically some form of the organizational name that is associated with the database.) Subsequent launches will remember your IdP.
  7. Login using your organizational credentials.
  8. If you have access to more than one repository in the database, a dialog will open prompting you to choose the repository you would like to access.
  9. BSI will then open. Default session timeout is 30 minutes. Time may vary depending on the database’s configuration.

Resetting your password
Logging In

  1. If you have forgotten your password, select the Forgot Password? link at the bottom of the dialog.Forgot Password
  2. An email containing a temporary password will be sent to the address listed in your user profile.
  3. Resetting your password will prompt BSI to ask you to change your password the first time you log in using the temporary password.
  4. Enter a new password. It must not be the same as any of your previous 24 passwords. The password must be 8 or more characters in length (unless the Password Minimum Length System Preference is set to a higher number), have no spaces, and have at least one character from each of the following complexity categories:
    • Uppercase letter
    • Lowercase letter
    • Number
    • Special characterNew Password
  5. If desired, mark the Change your password on all databases you have accounts on checkbox(es). This only affects other accounts you have on the same instance (i.e. production, mirror, UAT, etc.).
  6. Select OK, then BSI will open.

If you enter the incorrect password too many times, your account will be deactivated. You will receive an email letting you know why your account was deactivated.

Webservice-only users

Some BSI accounts are flagged to only allow the user to access BSI via BSI Connect.  These users will receive email reminders of an upcoming password expiration date 30, 15, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 day(s) before the password expires.

Uninstalling an Existing Version of BSI

To uninstall BSI in Windows:

  1. Note the installation directory. Right click the BSI desktop icon, select Properties and Open File Location. Note or copy the path for later.
  2. Depending on your Windows version, navigate to the computer's Windows Settings/Apps & features (Windows 10) or Control Panel\Programs and Features (Windows 7).
  3. Select BSI from the list of installed programs, then click the Uninstall button.
  4. You will be asked if you really want to uninstall BSI.  Click Yes and follow the uninstaller's prompts.
  5. Close window or folder.
  6. If there are files which the uninstaller could not remove, click the folder icon on the task bar (bottom of the screen) you will open File Explorer.
  7. Using your Windows/File Explorer, navigate to the installation directory you noted earlier. (That location was for the executable file, which is in the BSI folder.) Navigate up one level, most likely a path similar to c:\\users\yourname\AppData\local\.
  8. Delete the BSI folder by clicking the keyboard's Delete key or by dragging the directory to the Recycle Bin.  If asked whether you really want to delete any files, respond Yes
  9. Navigate to the c:\\users\yourname\AppData\roaming folder. Delete the BSI folder using one of the methods in step 8.

To uninstall BSI in Mac:

Drag the BSI icon into the trash from wherever it was placed during installation.
