My Specimens

The My Specimens manager is a module that displays all of the specimens a user is allowed to see based on his or her security settings.

A “My Specimens” folder is available in each user’s reports directory, where they can save user-defined listing or frequency reports. Any report saved in this folder becomes available to that user as a group on the My Specimens manager. These groups can be used to view, edit, requisition, or ship the specimens which are returned as results.

The manager displays a sum of the total number of specimens currently shown in the manager. Users must have permission to access this module.

The My Specimens manager consists of:

  • A Specimen table that allows users to organize specimen information

  • A Quick Search option

  • A Filter drop-down below the table, which allows users to filter the displayed information by Group. Users can add specimens to a group, remove specimens from a group, and remove a group

  • A Display drop-down box that controls what data is displayed:

    • "By Specimen" - lists the specimens and specimen data associated with the specimens for the currently selected filter group

    • "By Sample" - lists the Sample IDs, counts by Sample ID and sample data associated with the specimens for the currently selected filter group

    • "By Subject" - lists the Subject IDs, counts by Subject ID and subject data associated with the specimens for the currently selected filter groupMy Specimens manager

Example: Ms. Joy houses all of her specimens in a set of freezers in her lab. She uses the BSI Dashboard to view colorful chart versions of her reports, and displays the same reports via My Specimens, grouping the specimens in each freezer by Study ID and making it easier for her to requisition multiple specimens from that location at a time via the right mouse button. The reports she saves are available easily from the My Specimens manager and update automatically, ensuring that the specimens she requisitions are always from the correct study and are currently stored in the correct freezer. She also uses it to track the number of specimens she has for each study she is PI for.
