508 Compliance and Keyboard Navigation

BSI is compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Users can navigate through BSI using their keyboard. All page functionality is available using the keyboard, unless the functionality cannot be accomplished in any known way using a keyboard.

Keyboard Navigation in the BSI Client

The following table lists the essential keyboard shortcuts that you can use to navigate in BSI Client.

Give focus to the next element or control. 

Shift + Tab

Reverse the navigation direction and give focus to the previous element or control. In general, the Shift key reverses the navigation direction.

Ctrl + Tab

If the Tab key has a specific purpose in a control, press Ctrl + Tab to give focus to the next element or control. For example, if you press Tab in a text box, the system inserts a tab space.

To give focus to the previous element or control, press Shift + Ctrl + Tab.

Arrow keys 

Navigate within an element or control. 

Spacebar

Activate the element or control that has focus. For example, if the current control is a button, this action is the equivalent of clicking on the button with a mouse. 

Esc

Close a window or menu.

Color is not used as the sole method of conveying content or distinguishing visual elements. Table/text (like error table at the bottom) is added which would describe the content or other characters (like *) are added as distinguishing elements.

There is alternative text and/or accessible text available for non-text content. All images have equivalent alternative text (like Tools menu or pop-up text).

Keyboard shortcuts to navigate within an editable table

In addition to visual manipulation of a table via the mouse, there are several standard keyboard commands that can be used to navigate within an editable table. These commands are listed below.

Keyboard Navigation in the BSI Launcher

The following table lists the essential keyboard shortcuts that you can use to navigate on BSI Launcher.

Keyboard Navigation on BSI Engage

BSI Engage also complies with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (as amended).  All images, form image buttons, and image map hot spots have appropriate, equivalent alternative text. Embedded multimedia is identified via accessible text. Color is not used as the sole method of conveying content or distinguishing visual elements. All page functionality is available using the keyboard, unless the functionality cannot be accomplished in any known way using a keyboard.
