Contacts

The Contacts Manager displays information such as name, address, phone and email for BSI users and other contacts for BSI.  The manager is opened by selecting Contacts from the Manager menu of the main window.  The contact information is displayed in a main table with action buttons to the right.  Using the action buttons, users with the proper permissions can add new contacts, edit existing contacts and delete contacts.

Users must have permission to access this module.

Example: Let’s say Dr. Hu uses 10 different courier companies to ship her specimens, depending on where the specimens are being sent. She created a contact in BSI for the representative she deals with at each company, so that when ready to ship specimens, she can look up contact information easily.

On the Contacts Manager users can:

  • Use the Filter button at the bottom of the manager to open the Standard Search dialog to change what data is displayed in the main table.

  • Change the display of the table by sorting the column values, changing the column order, resizing columns, and hiding or showing columns.

  • Print the table data by selecting Print from the BSI File menu or ALT + P.

To add a new contact:

  1. Select New on the Contacts Manager.  A New Contact Dialog will open where information for the new contact can be entered.

  2. Fill in the information for the contact.  Fields with errors or required fields will be shaded red.  All errors must be resolved before the contact can be saved.  Hover the cursor over the field with the error to display a ToolTip describing the error.

  3. Select Save.  The contact will be added to the Contacts Manager.

Example: Repository A has several studies with PIs who do not access BSI at all. The local Administrator adds a contact entry for each of these PIs so that their information will still be linked to the Studies which they preside over.
